So I’ll be honest - I was getting a little down on myself for not seeing super-obvious physical results from my running (where are my Jillian Michaels abs?) I think it might have something to do with the four donuts I eat everyday.
Then I had a regular check up today and my blood pressure was 89/54 and my heart rate was something like 56 bpm. I was stoked.
Some reference:
The average they tell adults to shoot for is 120/80. This is a ballpark figure for adults and given my age and height, being lower than this is not unreasonable. 90/50 though is on the low end of average.
The top number - your systolic pressure - is the pressure in your veins and arteries when your heart is pumping blood into them. The bottom number - the diastolic pressure - is when the valves are closed (there’s more detail to this and the valves are never actually all closed at the same time, but for this point’s sake you get the idea). Medical professionals are typically more concerned about the systolic pressure because it is more strongly linked to heart disease.
So even though I’m eating those four donuts a day, and I may have a little belly fat - I know the running is helping to balance it out where it really matters and that feels awesome. And I guess developing my cardiovascular system (because your veins and arteries have muscles too!) is more important than developing my abs in the long run. And I like chocolate donuts.

Too many irons in the fire and too few results.
Being unemployed is the pits. I definitely understand what all the fuss is about.
